Holy Sh*t: Where's the Album?!

West Lafayette, IND. February 15th, 2024 | Off the release of 2 successful singles, midwest funk-pop band Please Her circles back and doubles down on their aspirations of becoming corporate sellouts. By EOD, the band is set to drop their highly anticipated first album on streaming services. Aptly titled Public Relations, the record is an experience of the young, collegiate psyche. With funky, dance tunes about “shaking that stuff” juxtaposed against bluesy bangers that lament social interaction, this album is a fun, chaotic, peek into the minds of busy college students and their satirical relation to public perception. Please Her does not pull their multi-genre punches, creating a cacophony of contrasting moods, styles and lyrical content. Front-to-back, this record is a journey that allows listeners to feel excited, amused, and scared simultaneously.

TLDR: Public Relations is on its way to your eardrums!

Single: Ricky TvN - A.G.O feat. Olah Only x Pharaoh Mook

Ricky TvN is coming into summer 2023 hot with a new single that boasts a stacked lineup of features and advanced production with "A.G.O" featuring Olah Only and Pharaoh Mook. "Turning absolutely nothing into something," the song pairs smooth melodies over a punchy, booming beat and brings to life the ambitious and powerful spirit of the artists. Fully shot, edited, and conceptualized by Ricky TvN himself, the whole vibe of this SAD CITY project is an eclectic and energetic manifestation of creativity, swagger, and resourcefulness. Olah Only, a protege of Playboi Carti and featured Rolling Loud NYC performer, dishes verses that creep up on the beat with the same hunger and spirit as his booming career. From conception to execution, this song and video are as bombastic as Ricky TvN himself.

Young, Famous, & African: Joyce Jacob is Changing the Game

Netflix's Young, Famous & African show made headlines last season--mainly for being a smart, eye-catching peak into affluent and famed movers and shakers of Africa, but also for lacking in the hair and makeup department. Cut to the latest season--this was a challenge renowned celebrity make-up artist Joyce Jacob accepted with open arms and brushes. With an eye for striking yet subtle makeup looks, her signature style leaves her clients feeling exhilarated from inside and out--a skill she has been honing in for over 15 years.

Overseeing a team of 15 cast members and 20 makeup artists and hairstylists, Jacob took the task of elevating the glam for the new season in stride. With a bigger production team than ever before, she used her resourceful spirit and creativity to create looks that enhanced the cast's aesthetic, personalizing each individual's glam to a top notch, cutting edge standard that complemented their unique on-screen personalities.

Commenting on her creative vision, Jacob states: "My full glam girls on the show were Bonang, Fantana, Sebabatso, and Rosette. While Zari and Kayleigh were on the soft glam side of things. Then Annie who practically wanted a “no makeup” makeup look. And Khanyi who was more particular about her lashes and skin work. All these different variations show their individual style when it comes to their glam! And they all looked amazing!"

As an African kid who grew up in the 90’s in the US, Jacob is proud to see African representation being recognized globally, and is looking forward to being a part of the growing conversation. Audiences should keep an eye out for the iconic styles of Joyce Jacob as she prepares to release her masterclass, relaunch her YouTube channel, and another secret Netflix project in the works. Stay tuned for what's to come!

Watch Please Her play a chill set at the Tiny Church. [pls don't sue us npr]

October 30, 2022 | The cool, autumn breeze of Halloweekend hit the midwestern college scene like a truck full of corn. The gloomy skies reminded the hungover students of West Lafayette that it was time for church… time for Tiny Church. Hustling and bustling about, Please Her had been posted in the basement in preparation for their first ever “chill” set- something they have been wanting to do for a long time, the execution growing in production possibility like the cheap vines from Amazon posted around the basement.

As the skies threatened rain and thunder, the musty basement felt warm and inviting. Everyone is welcome in the church of Please Her, the band had spent the days leading up to the performance decorating and preparing what was once a college-town rental basement into a dreamy garden.

Decked with a turf carpet, flowers, dorm-room lighting, and hidden trinkets collected from each band mate, Please Her wanted to create an experience that was fun, intimate, and uniquely theirs. From the second fans entered the room, the band felt their nerves of uncertainty- will the drum mics feedback?, Will the fans have a good time?, Will Brain’s camcorder actually work?- wash away. When the cameras started rolling, church had begun, and a strong sense of community filled the basement air.

Producing a tiny church service is no small feat, and Please Her mulled over what songs to play, what to surprise their audience with, what gets to be immortalized on the internet as long as they shall live. Deciding on seven songs, the band opted to play seven of their favorites, what represents their taste and talents, and what would make those on the Target futons (and at home) do a lil dance. Starting with a bluesy Anderson .Paak cover paired with an original,  indie tune about living in the midwest, the show’s stripped down nature felt a stark, homey contrast to their rock covers and gritty diss tracks performed at their typical shows. Filmed on a tape recorder that is quite literally older than the members of the band, the basement vibes shine through to create a cacophony of cozy commemoration and the larger-than-life disposition of the band’s brand. (thanks for the cool effects, Danny, they’re a nice touch).

Everything around the band must have felt some sort of sacrilege, but it is events such as this, sets that push them as musicians and as performers, the band craves. The tape recorder could not capture the pure joy, the comfort within the discomfort of pursuing a new experience. When the band wrapped up their second take, an audience member requested the band’s typical house-show rendition of “If Not Now, Then When.” Feeling warm, loved, and grateful,  the band administered ear plugs and wrapped up the day with a lay-down mosh pit and literal bang.

Please Her “Indie Kids” Official Lyrics and Meaning | Please Her Verified

Please Her explains the meaning behind their sultry, bluesy banger ”Indie Kids” off their debut album “Public Relations.”

The miracle of birth, Benjamin Franklin, and Chat GPT all had a hand in inspiring the lyrical flow of the tune, claims bassist Mikey King. “I turned to Connor [guitarist] and I said this. Is. it.” The band explains the moments that sparked lyrics that lament social interaction with the artsy crowd.
